Erwin Tonogbanua

Portfolio Manager

I serve as a Portfolio Manager at Smith Affiliated Capital, where I oversee the firm’s municipal
bond strategies and help support the development of our reporting and analytical systems. Since
joining SAC in 1997, I have been closely involved in both portfolio management and the continued
evolution of the firm’s investment and operational processes. I became a Portfolio Manager in
2005 and joined the Investment Committee in 2006.

My work primarily focuses on the municipal bond market, with an emphasis on credit analysis,
portfolio structure, and long-term positioning. I believe successful portfolio management is built
on consistency, attention to detail, and a strong understanding of underlying fundamentals.

In addition to my investment responsibilities, I work closely with clients to support ongoing
account activity and help ensure a responsive and seamless experience. I am often a direct point
of contact for clients navigating fund transfers, deposits, withdrawals, and other account-related
needs where accuracy, communication, and trust are especially important.

I have also been actively involved in the firm’s mentorship program, working with interns and
early-career professionals to provide exposure to both operational and investment disciplines.
Supporting the development of future professionals has been a rewarding part of my time at the
firm.

I earned a Bachelor of Science in Finance and International Business from New York University.
I am also fluent in Tagalog, the national language of the Philippines, which has allowed me to
connect with a broad range of clients and communities over the years.

Outside of work, I enjoy traveling, reading history and fiction, gardening, and spending time with
family and friends.
